Brazil July 2017: Fiat Argo breaks into Top 20 in market up 2.3%

The Brazilian new car market celebrates a third consecutive month of growth, albeit at a much more modest rate: +2.3% to 178.847 units, lifting the year-to-date total up 3.9% to 1.170.308 sales. As it has become the routine, Chevrolet advances much faster than the market at +13% to 18.7% share whereas Fiat struggles at -14% to 13.8%. Volkswagen (12.7%) is up 6% and Hyundai (9.6%) is up 7%, overtaking Ford year-to-date to snap the 4th spot. Honda (+15%) and most impressively Jeep (+54%) are the other two manufacturers managing a double-digit year-on-year gain in the Top 10. Mercedes (+11%), Land Rover (+19%) and Suzuki (+35%) also impress while Chinese carmaker Chery spends a third consecutive month inside the Top 20.

Renault Sandero sales are up 17% year-on-year. 

Model-wise, Brazilian customers decidedly can’t get enough of the Chevrolet Onix: the nameplate is up another flamboyant 31% year-on-year in July to 8.5% share, its highest since las February. In contrast, both the Hyundai HB20 (-4%) and Ford Ka (+0.2%) lose share. The Renault Sandero impresses at +17% in 4th place, distancing the Chevrolet Prisma (+6%), Toyota Corolla (+6%) and VW Gol (-4%). The Fiat Toro (+17%) cements its status of #1 commercial vehicle at #8 overall, the Fiat Mobi (+20%) continues to improve and the Jeep Compass is brilliantly back inside the Top 10. Further down, the Fiat Argo breaks into the Top 20 at #18: it will need to climb much higher to stop the sales haemorrhage Fiat is suffering at the moment. Other newcomers have stabilised: the Hyundai Creta is down three spots to #20, the Honda WR-V up two to #36 and the Renault Captur up 4 to #45. Notice also the Renault Kwid jumping 50 spots on June to #77.
