The Italian new car market is up a very robust 12.9% year-on-year in June to 187.642 units, lifting the year-to-date tally up 8.9% to 1.136.331 registrations. Market leaders Fiat (+16%) and Renault (+14%) brilliantly improve their share of Italian sales while Volkswagen (+6%) marks a pause in third place. Ford is dynamic at +18% but remains below its year-to-date level. The bottom of the Top 10 only has brands with double-digit gains: Citroen (+55%), Nissan (+36%), Dacia (+35%) and Toyota (+19%) all shine. Further down, Audi (+27%), Alfa Romeo (+23%), Suzuki (+41%), Skoda (+54%), Seat (+26%) and Porsche (+31%) all impress.
In the models ranking, Fiat monopolises the Top 4 with the Panda (+3%), Tipo (+186%), 500L (-17%) and the surprise of the month, the Punto back up 13 spots on May to 5th place with sales up 21% year-on-year. The Renault Clio (-0.2%) remains the most popular foreigner and the only one in the Top 8: it is followed this month by the Fiat 500X (+24%), 500 (+11%) and Lancia Ypsilon in rare difficulty at -18% and #8 vs. #2 year-to-date.
The Ford Fiesta is very solid at +20% but the big news in the Italian Top 10 this month is the arrival of the Dacia Sandero for the first time at #10 thanks to sales more than doubling year-on-year at +102%. The Citroen C3 (+121%), VW Tiguan (+155%), Renault Megane (+113%) and Nissan Micra (+96%) also post spectacular gains inside the Top 30 while below, the Peugeot 3008 (+462%) and Renault Scenic (+223%) are boosted by their new model and the Alfa Romeo Giulia breaks its ranking record for the 2nd month in a row, lifting it to #38.
