The Colombian new car market is back on BSCB with detailed First Half 2017 data. June sales are down 3.8% year-on-year to 19.841 leading to an H1 total down 3.5% to 113.101 units. If Chevrolet still leads the brands ranking over the period, it drops 12% and its advantage over Renault (-2%) goes from 4.3 percentage points in H1 2017 to 1.9 now. Worse: Renault was the most popular manufacturer in Colombia in June at 4.173 sales (+0.5%) vs. 4.158 (-16%) for Chevrolet, both commending a 21% share of the market. Thanks to the new Kicks, Nissan shoots up 23%, two spots and almost two percentage points of market share to land on the podium at #3 and 8.7% share. In contrast, Kia tumbles down 19% to #4. Other great performers over the period include Volkswagen (+37%), Toyota (+18%), BMW (+60%), JAC (+56%) overtaking Chery (-41%) and Foton (+5%) to take the lead of Chinese carmakers, Dodge (+25%), Peugeot (+256%) and Citroen (+135%), the latter two making a long overdue reappearance inside Colombia’s Top 30.

The Renault Sandero remains the most popular model in Colombia.

Over in the models ranking, the Renault Sandero is headed towards a second consecutive annual win and third in total (add 2012) with H1 2017 sales up 41% on the same period last year to 8.3% share. It is followed by the Chevrolet Spark (+22%) and Sail (+25%) while the Renault Logan (+19%) overtakes the Renault Duster/Oroch (-24%) to soar to 4th place. The Kia Picanto is up three spots and 38% to #5. Among recent launches, the Nissan Kicks lands at #17, the Renault Captur at #22 and the Suzuki Vitara at #32. The Chevrolet N300 is the best-selling “hidden” Chinese model (it’s a rebadged Wuling Rongguang) in 29th place overall while the official #1 Chinese title goes to the JAC S2 at #51.

The JAC S2 is the best-selling Chinese-branded nameplate in Colombia so far in 2017.

Colombia is the first country where the new Renault Alaskan pickup is available, since October 2016. Accordingly, it makes its first appearance in any world sales charts here in Colombia in 62nd position with just under 300 sales. Although it appears minimal, this score already ranks the Alaskan among the best-selling pickups in Colombia: below the Nissan Frontier (#14), Toyota Hilux (#40) and Chevrolet D-Max (#44) but above the VW Amarok (#65), Ford Ranger (#68), Mitsubishi L200 Sportero (#83), Ford F150 (#84) and Mazda BT-50 (#88). Note Renault Oroch sales aren’t separated from Duster figures.
