After receding 11% in April, the Danish new car market is back to galloping ahead in May, up 5% to 22.300 units which leads to an all-time record five months score of 99.832 registrations, up 7% on the same period in 2016. At this rate, new car sales in Denmark are headed towards an incredible 7th consecutive record year. Volkswagen remains the most popular carmaker in the country and sees its deliveries soar 29% in May to 13.6% market share. Peugeot (+7%) follows at a distance at 9.4% while Toyota (-0.1%) rounds up a podium identical to the year-to-date ranking. Skoda (+19%) jumps two spots on April to #4 and Renault (+8%) is up four to #5. Below, Citroen (+27%), Suzuki (+29%), Mercedes (+47%), Nissan (+38%), Dacia (+39%) and Volvo (+41%) all post spectacular gains.
In spite of deliveries down 18%, the Peugeot 208 is once again the best-selling nameplate in Denmark with a 4.1% share this ,month. It is followed by no less than four Volkswagens: the Up is up 13% to #2, the Golf is up 83% to #3, the Passat up 23% to #4 and the Polo up 32% to #5. Inside the Top 10, the Nissan Qashqai (+44%) and Hyundai i10 (+50%) shine while outside, the Skoda Citigo (+77%), Citroen C3 (+141%) and Peugeot 2008 (+223%) are among the most dynamic.
