Norway January 2017: BMW up 41%, threatens VW for first place

The BMW i3 has ranked in the Norwegian Top 2 for four consecutive months.

The Norwegian new car market surges 19% year-on-year in January to 13.055 registrations but Volkswagen sees its supremacy severely threatened this month at -1% to just 12.9% share vs. 17.2% over the Full Year 2016, feeling the heat from both BMW up 41% to 11.8% (vs. 7.8% in FY16) and Toyota up 38% to 11.7%. Volvo for its part is up 80% to 8.9% share in 4th place, Mercedes is up 47% to #5, Skoda up 29% to #6 and Peugeot up 31% to #9. Porsche (+52%), Kia (+95%), Hyundai (+137%) and Tesla (+250%) also post spectacular gains this month.

The Volvo XC90 surges to 5th place in January. 

The VW Golf (-26%) resists in pole position of the Norway models ranking but the BMW i3 (+112%) and VW Passat (+118%) are pushing strong in 2nd and 3rd places respectively. The Toyota RAV4 (+44%), Volvo XC90 (+91%), Skoda Octavia (+68%) and Mercedes GLC (+155%) also deliver stunning performances on January. Among recent launches, the Toyota C-HR has already made its mark at #12 with 246 sales, the Tesla Model X ranks at a world-best #14, the Kia Niro at #18, the Volvo V90 at #21 and the Hyundai Ioniq at #24.
