Very dynamic car market in Martinique – a French overseas island located in the Caribbean Sea – with passenger cars up 9.7% to 14.192 units, the first time they cross the 14.000 annual milestone since 2007. Note these figures don’t include commercial vehicles (and explain the smaller number vs. our 2015 article). Peugeot is back above archenemy Renault thanks to deliveries up 12% to 15.9% share with low-cost brand Dacia brilliantly rounding up the podium at 9% share vs. 7.6% a year ago. Model-wise, mimicking the brands charts the Peugeot 208 reclaims the title of best-seller on the island, surging 12% to overtake the Renault Clio (+3%) while the Dacia Sandero ranks at a stunning third place. This means both the Top 2 brands and models have a reverse order as in metropolitan France. Note a particularity of the Martinique new car market: due to particularly generous offers at the end of the year, December sales represent 22.6% of the annual total at 3.203 units.
