Romania September 2016: Skoda Rapid on podium in market up 62%

Another stunning month for the Romanian new car market: after gaining 69% in August, sales are up 62% year-on-year in September to 9.361 units, lifting the year-to-date tally up 20% to 67.992. Market leader Dacia fails to match the galloping pace of the market with sales up ‘just’ 40% to 2.257, resulting in a weak 24.1% market share vs. 29% so far this year. Skoda on the other hand surges 113% to 2nd place with 10.4%, overtaking Volkswagen at 10.2% (+47%) with Ford (+105%), Opel (+73%), Renault (+81%), Mercedes (+107%), Hyundai (+78%), Peugeot (+234%) and BMW (+90%) in tow and all beating the market to hit higher shares. Notice also Audi (+167%), Suzuki (+126%), Honda (+165%), Jaguar (+450%), Lexus (+113%) and Maserati (+100%) all posting spectacular gains.
Mercedes sales are up 107% year-on-year in Romania to #7 overall.
Model-wise, the Dacia Logan (+36%) and Duster (+75%) are joined on the podium by the Skoda Rapid (+108%) while the Opel Astra shoots up 218% year-on-year to #4 thanks to re new generation. The VW Jetta (+212%), Ford Focus (+120%) and Skoda Fabia (+228%) also impress inside the Top 10 while further down the Opel Corsa (+204%), Renault Captur (+246%), Peugeot 308 (+410%), Ford Mondeo (+169%), Renault Kadjar (+272%) and VW Tiguan (+257%) take off. The Fiat Tipo (#57) leads newcomers (<12 months) ahead of the Mercedes GLC (#62), Renault Talisman (#72), Ford Ecosport (#79), Jaguar F-Pace (#90) and Ford Edge (#98). We welcome the Infiniti QX30, Maserati Levante, Tesla Model X and Volvo S90 in the Romanian charts this month, each with one single sale.
