Switzerland August 2016: Golf and Octavia down, Tiguan up

New car sales in Switzerland are down 6% year-on-year in August to 21.927 registrations, bringing the year-to-date tally to 206.038 units, down 5% on the same period last year. Market leader Volkswagen follows the market at -6% to 12.6% share, followed by Mercedes (8.8%), BMW (8.6%) – both improving their share of Swiss sales compared to a year ago – and Audi down 15% to 6.6%. Skoda is down 14% to #5, Ford down 1% to #6 and Opel down 8% to #7. Outside the Top 10, notice Dacia up a staggering 229% to #11, Honda up 112% to #23 and Jaguar up 118% to #28. Model-wise, the VW Golf plummets down 45% to just 663 sales and 3% share and the Skoda Octavia is also down a harsh 27% to 627 with the VW Tiguan triumphantly up 128% thanks to the new model to #3 and 533 deliveries. The Mercedes C-Class (+18%) and Seat Alhambra (-6%) complete the Top 5. The BMW X1 is up 12-fold on its August 2015 score to 7th place with 370 sales. Notice also the Opel Astra up 130%, the VW Touran up 529%, the Dacia Sandero up 285% and the Dacia Duster up 146%.
