In August, the Spanish new car market posts a 6th double-digit year-on-year gain for 2016 at +14% to 64.549 units, the best August score since 2007 (99.639). This means the year-to-date tally is now up 11% to 799.233 registrations, the highest since 2008 (882.565). Traditionally the rental channel is weak in August. 2016 is no exception, and even if sales to rental companies are up 48% to 2.544, they still account for just 3.9% of the August total vs. 22.3% year-to-date. Company sales do the heavy lifting at +17% to 19.420 and 30.1% share vs. 25.8% year-to-date but private sales are also very robust at +12% to 42.585 and 66% share vs. 51.9% so far in 2016.

But the hero of the month is without contest the Hyundai Tucson, celebrating one year in market with deliveries up 137% to a record-breaking 5th place overall.
