New Zealand August 2016: Ranger #1, Tiguan and HR-V up

Another record month for new vehicle sales in New Zealand, up 13% year-on-year in August to 12.677, the best score for the month since 1984. Year-to-date, the Kiwi market is up 7% to a record-breaking 93.381 units. Toyota slips down 1% but remain comfortably in the lead at 18% share, distancing Ford at 11.5% (+19%), Holden at 8.3% (+3%), Mazda at 7.4% (+13%) and Mitsubishi at 6.3% (+36%). Kia (+62%), Suzuki (+41%), Honda (+28%) and Mercedes (+42%) shine. The Ford Ranger consolidates its leadership despite sales down 2% this month (721), but head and shoulders above the Toyota Corolla (535) and Hilux (486) both dropping in the double-digits. The Kia Sportage confirms it is now a NZ blockbuster at #4, the Toyota Yaris soars back up to #5 (+28%) ahead of the Nissan Navara (+48%). First appearances in the Top 25 of the VW Tiguan (#17) and Honda HR-V (#22).
