Thailand June 2016: Hilux drops 17% but leads, Civic stays strong

The Thai new car market is once again and encouragingly up year-on-year in June – it’s the 5th time in the past 8 months – with deliveries up 9% to 66.049 units, leading to a half-year result down just 0.1% on 2015 to 368.630. Toyota drops 2% but at 32.3%, it holds a much higher market share than year-to-date (29.5%). The Japanese manufacturer is followed once again by fellow compatriots Isuzu (16.9%), Honda up 26% (15.1%) and Mitsubishi (6.2%). Below, Ford shoots up 41% to #5 and 5.8% share, Nissan is up 16%, Mazda up 12% and Suzuki up 19%. Notice also Chinese carmaker MG up 170% to #12 and 1.2% share, Subaru up 168%, Tata up 34%, Scania up 83% and Land Rover up 400%.
The Toyota Fortuner and Ford Everest continue to deliver strong figures in Thailand.
Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux manages a 2nd consecutive month in the lead despite sales down 17% year-on-year to 10.628 ahead of the Isuzu D-Max at 9.149 (+4%). The latter still holds the year-to-date lead however at 61.946 (+9%) vs. 54.864 (-8%) for the Hilux. In third place, the Toyota Yaris is up 39% to 3.105 sales with the Honda Civic holding very strong at 2.850 units, up 7-fold on a year ago thanks to the new generation. The Ford Ranger (+40%), Toyota Fortuner (+251%), Nissan Navara (+40%), Almera (+82%) and Chevrolet Colorado (+51%) also shine whereas the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport slowly returns to normal (#18) just under a year after the new generation launched. The Ford Everest (#17) leads recently (re)launched nameplates above the Suzuki Ciaz (#22), Honda BR-V (#23) and Mazda CX-3 (#30).
