Nothing can stop the galloping Mexican new car market, up another 18% year-on-year in July to 131.772 registrations, lifting its incredible streak to 27 consecutive months of year-on-year gains, 19 consecutive monthly records and 12 consecutive months above 100.000 units. The year-to-date tally now stands at a record-breaking 853.670 deliveries, up 18% on the same period last year which was already an all-time record. As it has been the case for the past few months, market leader Nissan is struggling to keep pace with the market but still sign a very vigorous 16% gain to 33.201 sales and 25.2% share, distancing Chevrolet at 18.4% (+19%), Volkswagen at 13.3% (+19%) and Ford at 6.3% (+15%). Hyundai (+20%), Renault (+24%), Suzuki (+27%), Toyota (+39%) and Mercedes (+50%) are the most dynamic carmakers inside the Top 20.

But the hero of the month is once again newcomer Kia celebrating one year of presence in Mexico with a 7th consecutive record month, up 6% on June to 5.510 units and overtaking Mazda to access a highest ever 7th place overall. For the first time, Kia also sells over 1.000 locally produced units (1.010 Forte) coming from its shining new Nuevo Leon factory. After relinquishing its crown to the Chevrolet Spark in June, the Nissan Versa resumes its domination of the Mexican models ranking thanks to sales up a whopping 51% year-on-year to 8.019 vs. 7.116 (+188%) for the Spark, knocked down to 2nd place. The Chevrolet Aveo remains in third place despite deliveries down 12%, ahead of the VW Vento (+13%), Nissan Pickup (+33%) and Chevrolet Sonic (+36%). Notice also the Nissan Sentra up 37%, the Kia Sportage up 80%, Toyota Yaris up 124% and Honda Fit up 140%.

The Ford Figo is the most popular recent launch (<12 months) at #14 with 2.088 sales, distancing the Kia Rio at #20, Chevrolet Equinox at #30, Hyundai Tucson at #44, Kia Soul at #48, Mazda CX-3 at #50 and VW Up at #52. Finally, we welcome three new nameplates in July in the Mexican sales charts. The Hyundai Creta (#76) isn’t an unknown nameplate if you are a regular BSCB reader: also known as ix25 in China, it has taken emerging markets by storm including India and Mexico should prove a fertile ground for the diminutive SUV. The Dodge Neon (#78), although not a new nameplate per se, is in fact a rebadged Fiat Tipo/Egea and fits the Mexican tastes for low-cost sedans. The Volvo S/V90 appears at #222 with a lonely two sales for now.
