Puerto Rico (USA) June 2016: Toyota Yaris takes off to 10.3% share

The new light vehicle market in Puerto Rico is up 1.4% year-on-year over the First Half of 2016 to 40.263 units. Being an unincorporated state of the United States, Puerto Rican sales figures aren’t included in the monthly U.S. totals and analysis. Toyota evolves like the market with deliveries up 1% to 10.702 and a stable 26.6% share. Hyundai shoots up 31% to 13.9% share ahead of Kia at 9.6% (+4%), Nissan at 9.5% (-4%) and FCA at 9.1% (+13%). In the models ranking, the Toyota Yaris shoots up to 4.149 sales and 10.3% share thanks the arrival of the new generation sedan – a rebadged Mazda2 sedan marketed in the U.S. until August as the Scion iA – which accounts for 87% of the nameplate’s sales in Puerto Rico so far in 2016. The Toyota Corolla, leader in 2015, is knocked down to #2 with less than half the Yaris volume at 1.814 and 4.5%. Excellent performance of the Hyundai Tucson up 6 spot on its FY15 ranking to #3, the Toyota RAV4 up 1 to #4 and the Hyundai Elantra up 9 to #5. The Toyota Tacoma (+2) and Jeep Wrangler (+1) also progress in the Top 10.
