Belgium May 2016: Renault Scénic and VW Tiguan push on

The Belgian new light vehicle market is up by a very dynamic 18% year-on-year in May to 54.906 registrations, lifting the year-to-date total up 6% to 285.222 units. Note these figures include light commercials. Brand-wise, Renault remains market leader, evolving like the market at +19% to hit 6.333 sales and 11.5% share, frankly above its 10.2% year-to-date level. This month, Renault places the Scenic (+26%) in pole position: the current generation is now in runout mode to make room for the new, launching in September. Volkswagen (+28%) is catching up at 10.8% share, with the Golf at #2, the Tiguan up a spectacular 253% year-on-year thanks to the generation and the Polo up 31% to #7. Peugeot (+18%) rounds up the podium, followed by Opel (+23%), BMW (+32%) and Mercedes (+12%).

Further down, notice Audi up 28% to #7, Hyundai up 31% to #10, Mazda up 140%, Mini up 65%, Land Rover up 27%, Honda up 151%, Jaguar up 216%, Smart up 113% and Ssangyong up 135%. Model-wise, below the aforementioned nameplates the Audi A3 rounds up the Top 5 thanks to deliveries up 42%, the Hyundai Tucson maintains itself at an extremely high level (#6), the Audi A4 is up 71% to #8, the Skoda Octavia up 49% to #10, Opel Corsa up 60% to #11 and Peugeot 2008 up 61% to #13.

Among recent launches, the Renault Kadjar edges up 3 spots on April to #39, the Renault Talisman is up 26 ranks to #119, the Jaguar F-Pace is up 110 to #174 and the Suzuki Baleno up 94 to #188. We welcome four new nameplates in the Belgian sales charts this month: the Fiat Fullback – a rebadged version of the Mitsubishi L200 – lands at #227, the Alfa Romeo Giulia arrives at #260, the Citroen C-Elysee at #287 and the Ford Edge at #295.
