After the Top 25 models and Top 53 All-brands, as is now the tradition on BSCB we explore the Russian models charts in a lot more detail for May. First the usual LCV suspects slot into the ranking: the GAZ Gazelle at #7 as in year-to-date and the UAZ Commercial (aka “Bukhanka”) at #22 vs. #24 so far in 2016. The Nissan Almera (1.003 sales) and Toyota Prado (1.000) miss out on a Top 25 passenger cars ranking for just a few sales while the Ford Fiesta breaks into the Russian Top 30 for the first time ever (#30), becoming the brand’s best-seller in the country just above the Focus (#31).
Just outside the Top 30, luxury SUVs continue to be all the rage in Russia: the Lexus RX is up a further 5 spots on April to a stunning 32nd place, the Lexus LX is up 21 ranks to #38 vs. #52 year-to-date and #100 in 2015, the BMW X5 is up 14 to #41, the Mercedes GLS up 17 to break into the Top 50 for the first time at #47, becoming Mercedes’ most popular SUV in Russia – and also the most expensive. The GLE follows closely at #48 (-6). In the Chinese aisle, it’s also SUVs that dominate: the Lifan X60 leads the pack at #45 ahead of the Lifan X50 at #60 and the Chery Tiggo at #80. Along with the Lifan Cebrium (#84), Geely Emgrand EC7 (#89) and Emgrand X7 (#96), there are 6 Chinese nameplates inside the Chinese Top 100 in May vs. 4 year-to-date.
