From this month onwards we will also be reporting on brands data for new light vehicles sales in Pakistan, with the caveat that only sales for new locally produced vehicles are available for this country. Currently only three manufacturers are manufacturing in Pakistan: Suzuki holds almost 54% of the market so far this year, followed by Toyota at 31.4% and Honda at 14.7%. Hyundai is dormant at just 10 deliveries in 5 months (-17%). This situation may soon change though as we analysed last month with the Pakistani government currently attempting to woo new entrants in the local market – the most advanced talks reportedly being set up with French carmaker Renault. Meanwhile, overall sales of Pakistan-made light vehicles are down 12% year-on-year in May to 17.052 units, pulling the year-to-date total down 6% to 89.431. The Toyota Corolla remains by far the most popular vehicle in the country with sales up 4% to 5.207 ahead of the Suzuki Mehran (+17%) and Honda City (+5%) whereas the Suzuki Bolan (-49%) and Ravi (-53%) progressively return to pre-2015 levels now that the tax cuts they were benefitting last year have ended.
