The Malaysian new car market continues to perform poorly in 2016: April sales are down 7% to 42.177 with market leaders Perodua (-15%), Honda (-9%), Proton (-10%) and Toyota (-32%) all falling even faster than the market. On the contrary, Volkswagen (+106%), Mazda (+85%), Mitsubishi (+183%), Ford (+74%) and Volvo (+341%) post brilliant gains.
In the models ranking – exclusive to BSCB – the Top 5 is identical to the year-to-date order with a podium 100% Perodua composed of the Axia in the lead at 15.4% followed by the Alza and Myvi. The Proton Saga and Honda HR-V round up the Top 5, with the latter commending an outstanding 6.6% share, only 54 units off the #4 spot. The Toyota Vios gains two spots to #6, the locally-assembled VW Polo surprises and breaks into the overall Top 10 for the very first at #9 (+10) thanks to 981 sales, the Toyota Corolla is up 5 to #13 and the Toyota Camry up 14 to #21.
