The Uruguayan new car market is stuck in hell in this start of 2016: March sales are down another 19% year-on-year to 3.921 units, pulling the year-to-date total down 20% to 10.236 units after three months. Fiat compensates for a particularly weak February volume (61 sales) by delivering 680 units in March of 17.3% share, up 233% on March 2015. That is not enough however to snap the year-to-date pole position off Suzuki, still leader with 1.194 sales and 11.7% despite sales down 39% on the same period last yea. Fiat is up 50% to 1.134 units and 11.1%, just above Chevrolet at 1.130 and 11% (-21%). Renault manages to gain ground in 4th place (+2%), as do Lifan (+85%), Geely (+60%), Honda (+119%) and JAC (+116%) in the Top 20. Despite these great performances by three of its reps, Chinese carmakers are down 36% in March to 629 sales of 16% share vs. 20.3% a year ago.
