It’s a difficult start of the year for new car sales in New Caledonia, an overseas French territory located north-east of Australia. January sales are down 19% on a year ago to 510 units and February volume is down 23% to 569 sales, resulting in a two-month year-to-date total down a harsh 21% to 1.079. Note these sales are not accounted for in the monthly metropolitan French updates, which earns New Caledonia its own section on BSCB. Ford keeps the lead of the brands ranking despite sales down 41% to 129 and 12% share over the period, but Peugeot is #1 in February with 13.4% share, adding up to 117 sales and 10.8% so far in 2016. Dacia is down 23% above Renault (-1%), Toyota (-16%) and Citroen (-13%). Model-wise, the Ford Fiesta interrupts the Ranger’s domination thanks to 56 sales over the period, with the Ranger and Dacia Duster tying for #2. The Subaru XV jumps to #11 and the Great Wall Voleex C20R to #21 and #14 in February. Chinese brands are indeed available in New Caledonia unlike metropolitan France.
