Based on data published by SMMT, new car sales in England are up 7% year-on-year in 2015 to 2.254.485 units, the true engine of growth in the UK with Scotland (-0.5%), Wales (+2.5%) and Northern Ireland (-0.1%) all underperforming vs. +6% in the UK overall. Most UK company leasing and rental car purchases are centralised in England, impacting the English sales charts and removing them somewhat from what ‘real’ consumers buy compared to UK’s other nations. England represents 86% of the overall UK market, therefore its best-sellers are almost identical to the UK ranking we analysed earlier. In fact, the entire English Top 9 is identical to the UK with the Ford Fiesta in the lead above the Vauxhall Corsa, Ford Focus, VW Golf and Nissan Qashqai. The only change comes in 10th place where the Mercedes C-Class (38.212 units) keeps the Vauxhall Mokka out of the Top 10.
