For the third consecutive month on BSCB we can now share with you complete data for South Africa, including exclusive models data for Hyundai, Kia, Great Wall and Mercedes which are traditionally not made public. The South African market continues to struggle in September at -9% to 55.322 registrations, pulling the year-to-date total down 4% to 463.106 units. 22% of the market is sold to car rental companies, an unusually high ratio as private consumers are reluctant to purchase cars in a difficult economic environment. Light Commercial vehicles are holding well however, at +0.3% year-on-year to 15.121 sales, and in contrast to the new car market, exports reached the record figure of 35.181 units, up a solid 14% on September 2014. Toyota leads the manufacturers ranking as usual with a particularly strong 21.2% market share, above the Volkswagen Group at 17.3%, Ford at 11.5% and Hyundai-Kia at 9.9%. Notice Renault up 23% to #8 and a round 2.000 sales.
Over in the models ranking, the VW Polo Vivo signs a second consecutive month in the lead thanks to a very strong 4.180 sales and 7.6% share vs. 5.1% so far in 2015. It however remains #3 year-to-date. Now that the new model is in dealerships, the Toyota Hilux is back up 3 spots on August to #2 overall and 3.431 deliveries, reclaiming the #1 pickup spot off the Ford Ranger down to #4 and 2.865 units. The Toyota Corolla is up to #3 while the VW Polo is down to #5. Boosted by the new generation, the Hyundai i20 surges from #25 in August to #8 this month, the Renault Captur is up 14 to #27 but the Honda HR-V slips out of the Top 50 at #56.
