After temporary Top 10 figures and just before September data is published, as is the tradition on BSCB albeit with a bit of delay we go through the European brands and models rankings in more detail with the Top 53 brands and Top 341 models now available. The European new car market is up a very encouraging 11% in August to 778.504 deliveries, lifting the year-to-date total up 9% to 9.336.784 sales. In the brands ranking, Volkswagen underperforms (+3%) even though it historically places three models in the European Top 4 (Golf, Polo, Passat) for the first time ever. Inside the Top 10, Opel (+15%), Renault (+21%), BMW (+17%), Mercedes (+15%) and Skoda (+12%) outpace the market, while outside, notice (in ranking order) Nissan up 18%, Mazda up 30%, Suzuki up 25%, Smart up 135% thanks to the Forfour (#118), Jeep up 114% thanks to the Renegade (#95), Jaguar up 171% thanks to the XE (#154) and Tesla up 130%.
Clinging onto its Top 10 ranking: the Skoda Fabia.
The temporary Top 10 models published last month is confirmed in its integrality, albeit with every single model posting slightly lower figures. The Skoda Fabia holds onto its third ever Top 10 ranking by the skin of its teeth: it is actually equal 10th with the Opel Corsa, both nameplates selling 11.118 units in August. The Nissan Qashqai, Peugeot 308 and Audi A3 all get kicked out of a Top 10 they belonged to in July while the Mercedes C-Class remains at an excellent 15th position. Split figures between the MPV and coupe variant show the 2 Series Active/Gran Tourer breaking into the European Top 20 for the very first time at #19, becoming no less than BMW’s best-seller on the continent.
The 2 Series Active/Gran Tourer is BMW’s best-seller in the whole of Europe in August.
Further down, the Mercedes CLA jumps 9 spots on last month to a brilliant 53rd place vs. #79 year-to-date and #105 over the Full year 2014, all this due to the arrival of the Shooting Brake variant. The Renault Kadjar advances 19 ranks to #73, the Opel Karl/Vauxhall Viva is up 32 to #86, the Mazda CX-3 up 35 to break into the Top 100 and the Hyundai Tucson up 44 to #110. We welcome the Mercedes GLC at #200 and the Honda HR-V at #241.
