Exclusive June 2015 sales data for Malaysia shows the Perodua Axia has now comfortably established itself atop the sales charts, ending a decade-long domination of the Perodua Myvi within just a handful of months after its launch at home. After selling 7.739 units in January vs. 4.994 for the Myvi, the Axia is at 8.253 in June vs. 4.229 for the Myvi now also outsold by the Proton Saga (4.229) and threatened for #3 by the Perodua Alza (4.187). The Perodua Axia replaces the Viva which was Malaysia’s best-seller before the Myvi entered the scene in 2005. The Axia is also Malaysia’s most affordable car, it is a rebadge of the Toyota Agya/Daihatsu Ayla manufactured in Indonesia and sold in the Philippines as the Toyota Wigo.
With the Top 4 now 100% Malaysian, the Honda City remains at #5 to snap the title of best-selling foreigner off the Toyota Vios down to #6 whereas the instant blockbuster of this First Half of 2015 is the Honda HR-V landing directly in 7th place, a similar success as in neighbouring Thailand and Indonesia. Further down, the Proton Iriz manages to edge its way inside the Top 10 in 10th place with just under 3% market share, with other great gainers vs. FY 2014 including the Mazda3 at #25, Nissan Serena, Teana and X-Trail. Now that we have access to premium manufacturers data, we witness the arrival of the Mercedes E-Class (#23), BMW 3 Series (#31), 5 Series and Mercedes C- and A-Class inside the Malysian Top 50 in June.
