The Canadian new light vehicle market builds on a record First Half in 2015 with July sales up 0.5% year-on-year to 177.844 registrations, lifting the year-to-date total to an all-time high 1.111.283 deliveries. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) keeps the lead of the groups ranking with 16.1% share above Ford Motor at 15.3% and General Motors at 12.8% but Hyundai-Kia (11.3%) is back above Toyota (10.3%) and now trails the Japanese group year-to-date but just 9 units. Honda, Nissan (both at +10%), Subaru (+13%), Daimler (+14%) and Volvo (+54%) all deliver double-digit gains. In the brands ranking, the podium is unchanged with Ford (-6%) above Toyota (-1%) and Honda (+8%) while Hyundai (+2%) overtakes Chevrolet (-5%) and Ram (+17%), Jeep (+21%), Porsche (+28%), Lexus (+30%), Mercedes (+34%) and Acura (+39%) deliver some of the most impressive gains.
The Ford Explorer leaps to #21 in July.
Over in the models ranking, we have been following the sales gap between the decade-old leader the Ford F-Series and the Ram Pickup getting slimmer month after month this year. From 737 units in June, it grows back to 1.681 in July however the year-on-year evolutions remain in frank negative for the F-Series (-11%) and in frank positive for the Ram (+16%). The Honda Civic remains #3 despite sales down 8% while the Hyundai Elantra balances out a particularly weak June score (#13) by a 4th spot this month. Thanks to deliveries up 31% on July 2014, the Nissan Rogue manages a second consecutive (and ever) month inside the Canadian Top 10 at #10, with the Hyundai Santa Fe (+34%) missing out by one spot.
First full month of sales and first Top 30 ranking for the Honda HR-V in Canada.
Two full years after being unveiled to the press, the Jeep Cherokee’s polarising design continues to warm on Canadian carbuyers: its deliveries are up a whopping 78% year-on-year in July to 3.426, earning the nameplate to shoot up to #12, an all-time high for this generation being its previous best of #15 hit last May. Cherokee year-to-date sales are now up a very satisfying 38% on the same period in 2014. Five additional SUVs make themselves noticed this month: the freshly facelifted Ford Explorer jumps 65% to #21, by far its best ranking since BSCB started following Canada monthly in 2012, the Honda HR-V surges 41 spots to land at a very impressive 27th place for its first full month of sales with 1.936 units, the Mazda CX-3 breaks into the Top 50 for the first time at #44 (+14), the Jeep Renegade is up 48 ranks to #111 and the Fiat 500X is up 108 to #129.
