The Swiss new car market is up by a vigorous 6% year-on-year in May to 27.422 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 128.679 units, up 5% on 2014. In what could well be a first, this month the entire Top 8 best-selling models in Switzerland belong to the Volkswagen Group – the previous record was all Top 7 in February 2012. The VW Golf and Skoda Octavia lead the way as usual and by far with 4.5% and 3.8% share respectively, followed by the Seat Leon up 6 spots on April to lodge its first-ever Swiss podium ranking at #3, the Skoda Fabia up 17 ranks to #4, the Audi A3 down one to #5, VW Passat up one to #6, VW Tiguan down one to #7 and the VW Polo down 5 to #8. Below Volkswagen at 12.7% (+4%), BMW holds onto the 2nd spot in the brands ranking thanks to sales up 21% year-on-year to 2.153, above Skoda (+25%), Audi (+6%) and Mercedes (+7%).
