Nothing is stopping the UK market’s advance: April marks the 38th consecutive month of year-on-year gains at +5% to 185.778 registrations, the month’s best performance since 2005 and bringing the year-to-date total to 920.366 units, up 6%. Big changeover in the brands ranking this month: below Ford at 13.5% share (-3%), Volkswagen historically overtakes Vauxhall to snap the 2nd spot overall thanks to sales up 13% to 18.690 units, breaking the 10% market share milestone vs. 16.538 and 8.9% for Vauxhall. Audi (+2%) stays in 4th place with a very robust 7.1% share, but BMW (+4%) and Mercedes (+15%) are catching up in 5th and 6th places respectively.
Other great gainers in the Top 30 brands include Skoda (+10%), Dacia (+17%), Renault, Mazda (+20%), Land Rover (+27%), Mini (+32%), MG (+39%), Porsche (+45%), Lexus (+51%), Mitsubishi (+59%), Smart (+91%) and Jeep up 3-fold. In the models ranking, Ford monopolises the first two spots with the Fiesta (10.294 sales) and Focus (6.347) with the VW Golf rounding up the podium. The Vauxhall Corsa is down two ranks to #4 but up 25% year-on-year, ahead of the Nissan Qashqai (+25% also) and VW Polo (+36%) symbolically overtaking the Vauxhall Astra year-to-date to rank #7. The Mini reappears inside the Top 10 at #10 thanks to the new 5-door variant.
