Switzerland February 2015: Skoda Octavia one step above VW Golf

The Skoda Octavia now threatens the VW Golf for #1 year-to-date.

New car sales in Switzerland are recovering: up 2% year-on-year in February to 22,388 registrations, however after a 9% drop in January, year-to-date sales are still in negative at -3% and 40,788 deliveries. Below Volkswagen down 4%, Skoda takes off with sales up 32% to 8.4% share, and manages to place the Octavia in a clear pole position this month with 1,201 sales and 5.4% share, one percentage point above perennial leader the VW Golf at 990 units and 4.4%. This is the first time since January 2014 that the Octavia outsells the Golf and places #1, and its February score puts the Octavia only 24 units below the Golf year-to-date. We could be headed towards a tight race to the top in Switzerland this year.

The Mercedes C-Class is up to #4 in Switzerland this month.

Other manufacturers frankly outperforming the market this month in Switzerland include Mercedes up 48% on a year ago, Citroen up 31%, Mitsubishi up 48%, Mini up 60%, Porsche up 130% and Smart up 38%. Back to the models ranking to salute the Mercedes C-Class up to #4 vs. #34 in 2014, the Mercedes GLA back inside the Top 10 for the 4th time at #8, the Hyundai i20 up 26 spots on January to #9, the Skoda Fabia up 65 to #14, Opel Mokka up to #16, Citroen C3 up 46 to #19, Renault Captur up 8 to #25 and the Porsche Macan placing inside the Swiss Top 40 for the 2nd time at #40.
