Thanks to all-time high November sales at 111.645 registrations (+11% YOY), the Mexican new car market breaks the one million unit-barrier after just 11 months for the first time in history. Its previous best at this time of year was reached in 2006 at 999.344 units, 2014 betters this with 1.002.136 deliveries, a 6% increase on the same period in 2013. 2014 is now assured to be among the three best-ever years in the history of Mexican new car sales and could well be an outright record year. The two benchmark years are 2006 (1.139.718 registrations) and 2005 (1.131.768). December sales will have to hit 137,600 units or a 15% YOY surge for 2014 to be an all-time annual high. It seems just a tiny bit far-fetched, but not completely impossible, a more realistic forecast would be 2014 as the second best year in history in-between 2006 and 2005 around 1.135.000 deliveries.
The Honda CR-V is back up to #8 in Mexico this month.
Nissan confirms it is master in command in Mexico – the only country in the world where it ranks #1, by increasing its sales 18% YOY to 28,365 units and 25.4% share. Chevrolet (+8%), Volkswagen (-1%), Ford (+12%) and Toyota (+7%) follow, while Mazda (+37%), Renault (+36%) and Mitsubishi (28%) deliver impressive gains. Hyundai is once again just units away from the Top 10 at #11 and 2,031 sales vs. 2,075 for Seat. Model-wise, the Chevrolet Aveo keeps the lead despite sales down 16% YOY, the Nissan Versa is up 26% to 5% share and the Nissan March is the hero of the month, up a huge 70% on November 2013 thanks to the new model to land on the Mexican podium for the first time in the nameplate’s history at #3 and 3,984 sales. Notice also the VW Vento up 52%, the Nissan Sentra up 22% and Honda CR-V up 27% thanks to its facelift.
