New car sales in Bulgaria are down 5% year-on-year in November to an estimated 2,063 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 23,498 units, still up 6% on 2013. Brand-wise, Dacia reclaims the top spot off Toyota for just 4 sales and 211 deliveries and 10.2% share vs. 207 and 10% for the Japanese manufacturer. Skoda is strong in third position and 9.1% share, passing Renault to move up to #4 year-to-date. The Dacia Dokker is back to the pole position it holds year-to-date thanks to 110 units and 5.3% share, adding up to 1,094 and 4.7% so far in 2014 with just one month to go. The Nissan Qashqai and Skoda Octavia follow like in the 2014 ranking, while the Peugeot Boxer shoots up to #4 vs. #23 YTD, the Ford Focus is up to #5 vs. #14, the Toyota Auris up to #7 vs. #19 and the Renault Master up to #9 vs. #25. Further down, the Lexus NX is up 14 ranks on October to #36, already becoming the brand’s best-seller in Bulgaria year-to-date thanks to 30 sales, and the Nissan Pulsar makes its reappearance in the ranking at #86.
A caveat to these results is the fact that Bulgaria sales figures are skewed by re-exports to other European Union countries, with a large portion of new car sales in the country never making it to local roads – as much as 30% – thanks to Bulgaria displaying some of the lowest car prices in the EU. See here for more on this phenomenon.
