120,104 new cars were registered in South Korea in August. Brand-wise, below the 5 locals (Hyundai, Kia, GM-Chevrolet/Daewoo, SsangYong and Renault Samsung), BMW (2.7%), Mercedes (2.6%) and Audi (2.3%) all improve their market shares vs. July, knocking Volkswagen down to #9 overall. However these are the only manufacturers above… 0.5% market share! Below Toyota at 0.5%, Lexus, Mini, Ford and Land Rover all follow at 0.4% share. Model-wise, the Mercedes E-Class remains the most popular foreigner, up one spot to #25 while the Audi A6 overtakes the BMW 5 Series to take the 2nd foreigner spot at #27 vs. #29. These three models are the only ones from a non-Korean brand to sell over 1,000 units this month, and the VW Tiguan at #30 makes it only 4 strangers in the Top 30. The first non-German foreigner is the Lexus ES at #56, ahead of the Range Rover at #61, Toyota Camry at #62, Infiniti Q50 at #66 and Nissan Altima at #68. We welcome 4 all-new models in the South Korean ranking this month: the Jeep Cherokee at #96, Mercedes GLA at #130, BMW X4 at #143 and BMW i3 at #144.
