New car sales in Thailand continue to slam on the brakes: down 31% year-on-year in June to just 73,799 registrations, meaning the half year 2014 total stands at 440,911 units, down an abysmal 41% or over 300,000 sales on the same period last year. It also means Thailand is now way below Indonesia (almost 630,000 sales after 6 months) in the race for biggest South-East Asian market. Brand-wise: no surprises, Toyota continues to kill all competitors with a mammoth 37.3% market share this month thanks to 27,510 sales, ahead of Isuzu at 18.2% and Honda at a strong 12.3% vs. 10.7% year-to-date. The only change in the Top 9 is Suzuki overtaking Chevrolet for 8th place with 3.2%.
In the models ranking, below the Toyota Hilux (16.4%) and Isuzu D-Max (14.6%) stable at stratospheric levels, the Toyota Yaris confirms it now belongs to the podium by lodging another very solid month at 4,771 sales and 6.5% share, while the Toyota Vios is back above its archenemy the Honda City at #4. The big news in the Top 10 is the thunderous arrival of the new generation Honda Jazz, shooting up from #26 in May directly to #9 thanks to 1,956 units and 2.7%. Notice also the Mitsubishi Mirage at #11, the Suzuki Swift back up 6 ranks to #13, the Mazda3 at a strong #17, the Honda Amaze up 6 to #29 and the Suzuki Celerio making its entrance in the Top 50 at #33 for its first full month of sales.
