Mexico July 2014: Chevrolet Spark on podium

Neither here or there for the past 12 months, the Mexican new car market get a definite boost in July: up a robust 11% year-on-year to 96,211 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total back on track at 596,571 units, up 1% on 2013 and the best 7 month-score in 6 years. Brand-wise, Nissan (+15%) and Chevrolet (+14%) lead and both outperform the market, ahead of Volkswagen (+7%) and Ford (-12%). Honda impresses at +18% in 5th place as do Toyota (+19%), Mazda (+26%) and Seat (+14%). Only launched in the country last May, Korean manufacturer Hyundai continues to climb the ladder: up 30% on June to stop just short off a Top 10 ranking at #11 and 1.4% share. Notice also Mitsubishi up 57%, Subaru up 113%, Infiniti up 61% and Porsche up 59%.

In the models ranking, in pole position the Chevrolet Aveo is up an impressive 65% on July 2013 to 7,109 sales and 7.4%, its highest market share in Mexico since November 2012. In fact the entire podium shows great gains: the Nissan Versa is up 44% to #2 and the Chevrolet Spark is up 103% to a best-ever third place at 4,406 units. The VW Vento confirms it is here to stay among the top sellers at a cool 5th position, the Nissan Sentra is up 59%, Nissan March up 56% and the Honda CR-V is back inside the Top 10 at #10.
