Malaysian consumers bought 58,561 cars in June, bringing the half-year total to a record 333,142 units, up 6% on 2013. This increase is due to a boost in passenger cars sales while commercial vehicles are down 3% over the period. As a result the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) raised its 2014 forecast to 680,000 units instead of 670,000 units initially. Perodua remained the most popular manufacturer in Malaysia over the period with 94,500 sales and 28.4% share vs. 30.9% one year ago, ahead of Proton (18.9%), Toyota (15.3%) and Honda (11.2%). In June, Ford overtakes Mitsubishi to rank 6th while BMW and Mercedes both pass Kia to #12 and #13 respectively.
