German Private Sales (PS) data is always a little controversial because of its definition in this country: are counted as private the cars sold to private buyers. Demo cars, rental cars and long-term leases are not counted as private along with cars sold to companies. This explains the fact that as cars become more expensive, their PS ratio tends to drop: a lot of them are actually on a long-term lease, which can be argued is also a private ‘sale’. In June there were 106,049 new Private Sales in Germany, a 38.2% PS ratio, higher than in May (37.3%). Volkswagen monopolises the podium once again with the VW Golf in the lead (30.9% PS) above the Tiguan (56.5%) and Polo (47.1%) like in the year-to-date ranking.
The Honda CR-V reaches an excellent 78.5% Private Sales ratio this month.
The Skoda Fabia is up one spot on May to 4th place (61.5% PS) while the performer of the month is the BMW 1 Series up 9 ranks on last month to a brilliant 5th place with 2,447 sales and 46.5% PS ratio. Other great performers include the Mercedes C-Class up 11 to #7, the Mini up 12 to #14, BMW X3 up 22 to #29 and Mercedes GLA up 10 to #40. Highest PS ratios in the Top 100 are delivered by the Dacia Sandero (92.7%), Dacia Duster (88.9%), Dacia Logan (84.6%), Honda CR-V (78.5%), Suzuki Jimny (76.5%), Fiat Punto (70.8%) and BMW 2 Series (70.7%).
