New car sales in Uruguay are down 10% year-on-year to 4,635 registrations in May, bringing the year-to-date total into negative at 21,427 units, down 2% on 2013. Chevrolet remains the most popular carmaker in the country with 611 sales and 13.2% share this month vs. 12.4% year-to-date, ahead of Volkswagen at 9.2%. Suzuki is up 3 spots on April to land on the podium at #3 and 7.6%, passing Fiat (7.3%), Nissan (6.8%) and Hyundai (6.4%) while Renault (6.7%) is up 4 ranks to #6. BYD is the best-selling Chinese brand for the 2nd month running at #9 (5.3%) above Chery at #10, FAW at #11, Geely at #14 and Great Wall at #15. That’s 4 Chinese in the Top 15 vs. 3 year-to-date, and this month Chinese carmakers hold 22.7% of the Uruguayan car market vs. 23.6% year-to-date and 23.3% in 2013.
