Thanks to SMMT, I can now unveil the 10 best-sellers for each nation in the UK in April, all in one update. Keep in mind this is a zoom in into each nation, all figures are already included in the UK overall April update. The overall UK market is up 8% year-on-year in April, however England is the true engine of growth this month at +9% and 85% of total sales, with Northern Ireland (+7%), Scotland (+3%) and especially Wales – shockingly down 1% – all under-performing.
The Dacia Sandero is among the 10 most popular vehicles in Scotland.
In Scotland, massive event this month: after pointing its bonnet inside the Top 10 for the first time in 2014 last month, the Vauxhall Mokka shoots up to a spectacular 2nd place in April thanks to 552 sales and 3.5%. It is only beaten by the Ford Fiesta consolidating its 2014 leadership at 885 units and 5.6%, making the Mokka Vauxhall’s best-seller in Scotland above the Corsa at #3 and 548 sales! The Mokka now ranks #10 year-to-date. Further down, the Renault Clio remains very solid at #5 and the Dacia Sandero reappears inside the Scottish Top 10 for the first time since last December at #10.
The VW Golf is the best-seller in Northern Ireland in April.
In Northern Ireland, big news atop the sales charts as well: the VW Golf brilliantly takes the lead of the overall ranking for the first time since we have been following monthly sales in the nation (June 2013) with 168 sales and 3.8% share, ahead of the Ford Fiesta (3.3%), Focus (3%) and Vauxhall Astra (2.7%). The Nissan Qashqai, boosted by the new model, is back up 6 spots on March to a beautiful 5th place while the Vauxhall Insignia (#8), Kia Sportage (#9) and Hyundai ix35 (#10) all make an exciting reappearance inside the Top 10.
The Ford Kuga ranks 4th in Wales this month.
In Wales, it’s a very stable models podium: identical to March and year-to-date with the Ford Fiesta in the lead at an astounding 10.2% market share followed by the Ford Focus (4.1%) and Vauxhall Corsa (2.8%). The big surprise comes in 4th position with the Ford Kuga making a smashing entrance into the Welsh Top 5 thanks to 135 sales and 2.1% share. Notice also the Fiat 500 solid at #6 and the Ford Ka jumping among the Top 10 best-sellers in Wales at #10.
The Audi A3 also breaks its ranking record in England.
In England, traditionally the models ranking is very similar to the UK one as this nation represents 85% of overall UK sales in April. However there is an interesting difference in this month’s ranking: appearing in no other Top 10, the Audi A3 owes its record-breaking 5th position in the UK solely to its performance in England where it ranks at an even better 4th place thanks to 3,322 sales and 2.2% share, 88% of its UK total. This is actually the only difference in the Top 10.
