Ireland February 2014: VW Passat and Nissan Micra shoot up

The Irish new car market continues on its excellent run: up 20% year-on-year in February to 12,747 registrations which brings the year-to-date total to 35,640 units, up 28% on 2013! The VW Golf remains the most popular vehicle in the country thanks to 610 sales for a 4.8% market share, adding up to 1,757 and 4.9% so far in 2014, and is followed this month by the Ford Focus at 521 units and 4.2%, enabling it to also grab the 2nd spot year-to-date at 1,382 sales and 3.9%. Thanks to the new model, the Nissan Qashqai is back up 8 spots on January to #3 and 3.8% share while the Skoda Octavia is up two to #4 and 3.7%.
The two heroes of the months are the VW Passat up 17 ranks on last month to #5 with 409 units and 3.2% and the Nissan Micra up 36 spots to #7 with 375 sales and 2.9%. Notice also the Audi A4 up 23 to #19, the Nissan Note up 14 to #20 vs. #54 over the Full Year 2013 and the Seat Ibiza up 15 to #22. Brand-wise, after being passed by Toyota in January, Volkswagen reclaims the lead it held over the Full Year 2013 thanks to 1,628 sales and 12.8%, now also #1 year-to-date at 4,302 units and 12.1%. Nissan is up 3 spots to #4, only 10 units below Ford. Audi is up two to #8 and Dacia down two to #16.
