Very exciting times today! For the very first time on BSCB I can share with you a monthly all-models ranking for Russia. This is particularly fascinating given we only currently have access to the Top 25 models year-to-date for this country, which means the more we get into the year, the more the ranking is inaccurate as new models launch and perform better than their year-to-date ranking. You will notice a lot of models I have picked up during my 2013 Trans-Siberian Railway Series… My first note on this ranking is the presence of LCVs which are not included in AEB’s model updates, and logically the GAZ Gazelle ranks 6th with 6,941 sales, way above the Ford Transit at #49 and the UAZ 3909 ‘Bukhanka’ at #60.
The first ‘newcomer’ in the ranking (as in which didn’t appear in my year-to-date-led updates) is the new generation Skoda Octavia, up to a fantastic 16th place for its 7th month in market thanks to 4,033 sales and 1.5% share, effectively replacing the previous generation in the sales charts. The Mitsubishi ASX delivers its best monthly volume of the year at #20 with 3,451 units, as do the Nissan X-Trail at #22 and 3,240 sales and the all-new Nissan Almera at #24 with 3,028 units. Confirming my very frequent local sightings (especially in Kazan, Tatarstan), the Chevrolet Cobalt, launched in January, is up to #26 with 2,997 sales in December, its 4th consecutive month above 2,000 monthly units and the nameplate’s best-ever month so far.
Just below we find the Mitsubishi Outlander (particularly successful in Yekaterinburg) with 2,950 sales and 1.1%, while the Daewoo Gentra, launched last September so post my visit in the country but none other than a facelifted Lacetti, shoots up to #29 with a best-ever 2,717 units in December. The Skoda Fabia is up to #30, the UAZ Patriot to #31 and the Lifan X60 spectacularly takes the lead of all Chinese models sold in Russia, ranking 35th this month with a record 2,405 sales. Notice also the Mazda CX-5 (popular in Irkutsk) at #38, the Toyota Prado (preferred in Krasnoyarsk) at #41, the Geely Emgrand at #42 and the Ford Kuga at #43.
Further down, the all-new Citroen C4 Sedan is up to #55 (helped by its success in St Petersburg), the Peugeot 408 ranks #58, the Chery Tiggo FL is up to #62 with an all-time high 1,103 sales for its 6th month in market, the new generation Kia Cerato is #68 (thanks to strong sales in Moscow) Jeep Grand Cherokee is up to #82 vs. #133 over the FY2013, the Toyota Venza is up to #90 vs. #122, the FAW V5 (sighted in Irkutsk and on Lake Baikal) ranks #118 with 425 sales, and the Citroen C-Elysee (#140) and Peugeot 301 (#145) are a little shy for now.
