Topping off a bumper of a year in the UK, new car sales are up a massive 24% year-on-year in December to 152,918 registrations, marking the 22nd consecutive month of year-on-year growth and bringing the final 2013 total to 2,264,737 units, up a fantastic 11% on 2012. In this euphoric context, the Ford Fiesta remains the best-seller in the country by far with 8,512 sales and 5.6%, ahead of the Vauxhall Corsa back up 2 spots to #2 at 6,414 units and 4.2% and the Ford Focus down one to #3 with 5,559 sales and 3.6%. The Vauxhall Astra (#4) and VW Golf (#5) are back to their full year levels, while the Vauxhall Insignia confirms the 6th spot its held last month thanks to 3,956 sales and 2.6%, a level it had not reached in the past two years.
Renault is back among the Top 10 most popular brands this month vs. #18 in 2013 overall.
The VW Polo (#8) and BMW 1 Series (#9) are back inside the Top 10, whereas the Peugeot 208 stays out but hangs onto its 10th spot in the full year. Brand-wise, December is definitely a month to cherish for Vauxhall: it brilliantly takes the lead for the first time since December 2012, passing Ford thanks to sales up 31% to 21,302. Volkswagen is up a huge 42% but remains third, while Audis is up 55% in 5th place below BMW, Peugeot is up 31%, Renault up 44% to #9 vs. #18 in the full year and Skoda up 65%… Dacia stays #22 in-between Suzuki and Mazda and passes Jaguar over the full year to rank #24 for its very first year of sales in the UK. A very fine achievement indeed.
