Adding 20,420 registrations in December, the Pinoy new car market passes a new symbolic milestone this year: up a splendid 15% on a record-breaking 2012 to 211,287 registrations, the first time the Philippines is above the 200,000 annual unit-mark. Toyota and Mitsubishi consolidate their dominance, both gaining more ground than the market to reach record volumes in 2013. Toyota remains by far the most popular carmaker in the country thanks to sales up 16% to 75,161 units and 35.6% share while Mitsubishi sells a record 43,176 units, up a whopping 24% year-on-year, helped by a 28% surge in December and eclipsing its previous volume record of 36,533 units set back in 1996. Hyundai (stable), Honda (+6%) and Ford (+22%) follow.
Model-wise, lifted by a 4th consecutive record-breaking month in December (2,345 sales), the Toyota Vios is the best-selling vehicle in the Philippines for the 6th year in a row with 20,493 units and 9.7% share, up 24% on 2012. The Mitsubishi Montero Sport is up one spot to #2 with 14,683 sales and 6.9%, edging past the Toyota Innova at 14,376 and 6.8%. A newcomer inside the Top 10 is the Mitsubishi Mirage, up to 6th place thanks to 6,191 units sold.
