As is the tradition on BSCB, each month I share with you the sales of locally produced models provided by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association, a pretty accurate representation of the most popular cars in the country as imports are very limited. In November, sales of locally produced cars are up an encouraging 5% year-on-year to 9,588 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 130,154 units, down 11% on 2012. For the second time in the last 3 months, the Suzuki Mehran takes the lead thanks to a huge 2,568 sales and 26.8% market share vs. 1,966 and 20.5% for the traditional leader the Toyota Corolla. The Corolla’s advantage year-to-date is however too great to feel threatened by the Mehran’s performance in November: it still reigns supreme with 31,520 units and 24.2% vs. 29,326 and 22.5%. Excellent month of the Suzuki Cultus at 13.2% share vs. 10% year-to-date, while the Hyundai Shehzore pick-up gets traction at 1% share.
