Brazil November 2013: Chevrolet Prisma nearly inside Top 10

New car sales in Brazil are down 3% year-on-year to a still very solid 288,221 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 3,240,020 units, down 2% on 2012. The stability of the Brazilian models ranking is legendary (and borderline boring! oops I’ve said it) and November is a good example: the entire Top 7 is identical to October’s, with the VW Gol far above the competition at 20,363 sales and 7.1% followed by the Fiat Uno at 5.5%, the Fiat Palio at 4.8% and the Ford Fiesta hatch at 4.4%, enabling it to pass the VW Fox year-to-date to also rank #4 in 2013 so far. The archenemies Chevrolet Onix and Hyundai HB20 have stabilised at an almost identical level: they rank #6 and #7 in November at 10,318 and 10,067 sales respectively, and both commend 3.4% of the market year-to-date at 110,574 (#9) and 111,003 units (#8)…

It’s outside the Top 10 that things get a little more animated so to speak. The sedan version of the Onix, the Chevrolet Prisma, misses out on a Top 10 ranking for just 9 sales, up 4 spots on October to #11 with 6,945 sales and 2.4%, the best score of this generation of the nameplate so far. The Honda Civic is down 3 ranks to a still splendid #14, the Renault Duster is up two to #16 vs. #21 year-to-date and the Hyundai HB20S breaks into the Brazilian monthly Top 20 for the first time, up 4 spots to #20 at 4,380 units and 1.5%. Boosted by the 7th generation now available in Brazil, the VW Golf is up 11 ranks to #34, the Citroen C4L is up 6 to #63 and the Chevrolet Tracker up a further two to #68.
