Thanks to SMMT, I can share with you today the detailed models ranking for each nation in the UK, all in one update. Keep in mind this is a zoom in into each nation, all figures are already included in the UK overall update. Overall the UK market is up 4% year-on-year in October but Northern Ireland (+13%), Scotland (+10%) and Wales (+7%) outperform, leaving England at +3%.
The Fiat 500 is up to #3 in Scotland.
In Scotland, the Vauxhall Corsa consolidates its newly reacquired year-to-date lead thanks to 845 sales and 5.6% vs. 677 and 4.5% for the Ford Fiesta: looks like a 6th consecutive year at #1 is now becoming a reality! The most impressive performer is the Fiat 500, shooting up 3 spots on last month to brilliantly land on the Scottish podium at #3 with 515 units and 3.4%. Notice also the Nissan Qashqai back inside the Top 10 (and how!) at #4, the Peugeot 308 making its first appearance since I have had access to monthly data at #9, potentially the combined effects of rebates of the old gen and the new gen popping up, and the Kia Sportage at #10.
The Audi A1 breaks into the Welsh Top 10 this month…
In Wales, the Ford Fiesta continues to lead by far with 9.2% of the market which is double the score of the #2, the Ford Focus. The Vauxhall Astra is up 2 ranks on September to #3 and the Fiat 500 up 3 to #6. We welcome three new models inside the Welsh Top 10 compared to last month, two of them after a one month-absence: the Vauxhall Zafira is up to #8 with 126 sales and 2.1% and the Ford C-Max is up to #10 at 84 units and 1.4%. But the big surprise is the arrival of the Audi A1 at #9 with 91 sales and 1.5%!
…while the Hyundai ix35 does so in Northern Ireland.
In Northern Ireland, and this is the big news of the month across all UK nations, the Nissan Qashqai does no less than taking the overall lead thanks to 138 sales and 3.9% share, up a huge 8 spots on September. The VW Golf also shines, up one to #2 at 125 units and 3.5%. Both models pass the two year-to-date leaders: the Ford Fiesta at #3 and 3.5% and the Ford Focus at #4 and 3.4%. The Vauxhall Zafira stays solid at #6 while the Hyundai ix35 makes its first appearance in the Top 10 since I’ve started getting access to national data at #10 with 65 sales and 1.8%.
In England, as usual the ranking is very similar to the UK one as England represents 84% of overall UK sales. Below the Ford Fiesta leader at 5.4% share, the Ford Focus ranks #2 ahead of the Vauxhall Corsa vs. #3 in the UK, while the BMW 3 Series is up one spot vs. the overall UK ranking at #9. Replacing the Fiat 500, the Audi A3 points its bonnet at #10 in England thanks to 2,327 sales and 1.8%. The sedan effect already? Year-to-date, the VW Golf is still above the Vauxhall Astra at #4 whereas it is behind it in the overall UK ranking.
