New car sales are down 5% year-on-year in Saudi Arabia to 60,002 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 363,523 units, up 5% on 2012. For the first time on BSCB I can share with you a brands ranking in Saudi Arabia – but keep in mind Mercedes, Renault and Chinese manufacturers data is unavailable. Toyota leads the way by far with 40.2% share over the first half of 2013 thanks to 146,237 sales, followed by Hyundai (20%), Ford (6.9%), Chevrolet and Kia both at 5.8%.
However there is a big surprise atop the Saudi models ranking in June: with a massive 5,273 sales and 8.8% share (in all likeliness best-ever scores for the model in the country), the Hyundai Elantra becomes the most popular vehicle in the country in June, ahead of the Toyota Hilux (7.3%), Corolla (6.7%) and Camry (6%)… The Toyota Hilux leads the year-to-date race with 28,768 units and 7.9%, followed by the Toyota Corolla very close at 27,553 sales and 7.6%, the Hyundai Elantra at 6.9% and Hyundai Accent at 5.7%.
Other great performers this month include the Ford Expedition, unflagging in 7th position at 1,986 units sold and 3.3% share vs. #11 and 2.4% year-to-date, the Honda Accord up to #10, Toyota Sequoia up to #11 with 2.2% share vs. #25 and 1.2% year-to-date, Ford Taurus up to #12 vs. #21, Ford F-Series up to #22 vs. #49, Mazda6 up to #27 vs. #40 and the Mitsubishi Lancer up to #37 vs. #77. Finally, notice the Lamborghini Aventador rounding up the Top 200 year-to-date with 20 units sold.
