Thanks to SMMT, Northern Ireland in the UK is now a monthly update on BSCB. Keep in mind these figures are already included in the monthly UK updates, this is just a zoom in. New car sales in Northern Ireland are up 11% year-on-year in July to 3,439 registrations, which brings the year-to-date total to 33,810 units, up 8% on 2012. Northern Ireland is the smallest car market nation in the UK, and also the one that differs the most from the overall UK sales charts. Proof: there is a different #1 this month and the next 2 models are not even on the UK podium! The Vauxhall Astra is the favourite car here thanks to 170 sales and 4.5%.
It is followed by the VW Golf at 4.1% share and the Nissan Qashqai at 3.7%… The two overall UK best-sellers, the Ford Fiesta and Focus, are relegated to #5 and #4 respectively. But wait there are more surprises: the Kia Sportage comes up from outside the Top 10 in June directly to #7 with 88 sales and 2.3%, while the Vauxhall Zafira is up to #9 at 80 units and 2.1%
