Sales of local models are down 9% year-on-year in June in South Korea to 113,440 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 674,073 units, down 2% on 2012. Surprise atop the models ranking: a Light Commercial Vehicle, the Hyundai Porter, is the best-selling vehicle in South Korea this month and for the first time since BestSellingCarsBlog was created in 2010. And the Porter has not stolen its pole position: it sells 8,491 units for an excellent 7.5% share, over 700 sales above the #2, and now ranks #2 year-to-date, only 138 sales below the 2013 YTD leader the Kia Morning…
In fact, only 429 units separate the #1 from the #4 in the year-to-date ranking halfway through 2013! Below the Kia Morning at 46,809 sales we find the Hyundai Porter at 46,671, then the Hyundai Grandeur at 46,556 and the Hyundai Sonata at 46,380 units, all 4 models holding an identical market share at 6.9! Leader in 2012, the Hyundai Avante (aka Elantra) is down to #5 in 2013 with 44,550 sales and 6.6%. In the June ranking, notice also the Hyundai Santa Fe up 3 spots on May to #3, the Hyundai Tucson up 4 to #9, SsangYong Korando Sports up 4 to #20 and the Hyundai Maxcruz also up 4 to #23.
