June new car sales are down 6% year-on-year in Europe to 1,175,363 registrations, once again the weakest June result in 20 years. This brings the 6 months 2013 total to 6,436,743 units, down 7% on 2012. However analysts agree the market may have bottomed out and although the 2nd half of the year should also be down on last year, the decline should reduce further. ACEA has made the European brands ranking available and although there is no surprise on top with Volkswagen leading the way (-7%), Ford impresses and is one of only two brands in the Top 15 to improve its results year-on-year at +7% to 90,629 units, although its year-to-date sales are still down 10% on 2012.
Seat is up 11% year-on-year in Europe in June.
Renault is up 3 spots on May to land on the podium at #3 with 87,243 units but remains #4 year-to-date behind Opel/Vauxhall. Peugeot (-10%) and Audi (-9%) follow, while Citroen (-12%) is up 3 ranks on May to #7. Mercedes is the only other brand inside the Top 15 to gain ground on June 2012 at +2% to #9 and 58,866 sales. Further down, Dacia continues to improve frankly at +16% (#15), as does Seat at +11% (#17). Year-to-date, Mercedes is at +3% (#9) Kia at +1% (#15), Seat at +9% (#16), Dacia at +17% (#17), Honda at +8% (#20), Mazda at +5% (#23) and Land Rover at +9% (#24).
