Another horrendous month for new car sales in the Netherlands, down 37% on May 2012 to just 30,089 registrations. This means the year-to-date figure is now down 31% on 2012 at 175,931 units. The VW Up! confirms it has now nailed a second country in the world after Denmark by topping the May sales charts in the Netherlands with 1,303 sales and 4.3% and reinforcing its 2013 year-to-date lead at 7,634 units and 4.3%. Leader last month and during 8 of the last 13 months, the Renault Megane is down to #2 with a still very solid 1,199 sales and 4% and now ranks #6 year-to-date while the Ford Focus holds onto its third position thanks to 1,118 units and 3.7%.
Other great performers in the Dutch ranking this month include the Mercedes A-Class up 32 spots on April to #24, the B-Class up 16 to #29, Mitsubishi Space Star (aka Mirage) up 21 to #32, Seat Leon up 11 to #36, Dacia Sandero up 23 to #45 and the Opel Mokka up 35 to break into the Dutch Top 50 for the first time at #48. Among newcomers, we welcome the Peugeot 2008 in the ranking directly at #71 with 125 sales and 0.4%, the Mercedes CLA-Class is up 14 ranks to #86 but the Renault Captur is down 17 to #96.
