The Egyptian new car market is flat like the country’s desert this month, down 0.5% year-on-year to 17,123 registrations which brings the year-to-date total to 49,606 units, up 17% on 2012. The Top 5 best-sellers are unchanged compared to February which means the Chevrolet TFR, a previous gen Isuzu D-Max, tops the charts for the 4th time in the last 12 months, this time with an extremely solid 1,946 sales and 11.4%. The Hyundai Verna follows at 1,402 units and 8.2% ahead of the Chevrolet Lanos at 4.6%, Mitsubishi Lancer at 4.3% and Chevrolet Aveo at 4.1%.

But the big event this month in Egypt is the arrival of the Geely Emgrand EC7 within the Top 10 for the first time, shooting up to a fantastic 6th place thanks to 656 sales and 3.8% share, and this for only its 5th month in market! It will be very interesting to see if the Chinese model can climb even higher over the coming months… Another Chinese model in great shape in March is the Golden Dragon Haice, up a massive 24 spots on last month to #7 at 573 units and 3.3%. Notice also the Opel Astra Notchback up 9 ranks to #12 (making Egypt its best performing country in the world so far with Turkey), the Mitsubishi L200 making its first appearance in the Egyptian ranking at #14, the all-new Kia Cerato progressing again at #16 and the Hyundai ix35 landing at #17.
