After going through April sales in detail for China, as is the tradition on BSCB we are now exploring the year-to-date ranking to try and extract longer-term trends. The two best-sellers continue to evolve at sky-high levels albeit lower than last month: the VW Lavida is up 99% year-on-year to 155,423 sales (a new record for any passenger car in China after 4 months) while the Ford Focus does even better at +114% and 126,863 units, one year ago it wasn’t even in the Top 10 (#12). The Chevrolet Sail is up a less impressive 23% and remains third while the Buick Excelle drops from #1 at the same time last year to #4 with sales up just 1%.
In 5th place the VW Sagitar is up a whopping 40 spots and 166% year-on-year, this is the biggest gain among the Top 35 models. The Nissan Sylphy also impresses at +87% and 23 ranks in 8th position while the Hyundai Elantra Langdong is still by far the best-performing of the 48 all-new models launched within the last 12 months at #12 and 69,431 sales, with the Kia K3 at #30 and the BYD F3 Surui at #31 the only other newcomers in the Top 50.
VW Santana sales are up 66% year-on-year so far in 2013
The local models ranking is completely reshuffled compared to last year when the FAW Xiali N3/N5 led at #9 (it is now #33).
